Earlier this month I had the opportunity (thanks to Kim Anderson, Chairman of Minor Music) to participate in a workshop with the Rhapsody Quintet. They were an absolute delight to work with and I learned so much from my experience working with these 5 lovely individuals.
I sent a demo of Beacon, the lyrics and the chord arrangements. David Langstroth wrote the arrangement for the Quintet and I'm very fond of it. During the workshop we worked out some minor bugs. I don't play it exactly like the demo anymore. I tend to play it a little slower live, depending on feel and add an intro. I hadn't personally considered these modifications as they happened so gradually as part of the natural evolution of the song. This is certainly something be aware of in the future, I love how much this experience has taught me.
Performing with them was inspiring and I truly enjoyed listening to what they added to the song as much as I did performing it. It was a difficult balance not to get caught up in the emotions of what I was experiencing.
To Kim Anderson, a huge thank you. I am forever changed by this experience and just want to continue to grow and expand musically forever. To the Quintet, this experience is a memory encapsulated in time and I thank you so much for the opportunity and the lessons within it.
